This is a semi candid ! The girl realised that the picture was going to be taken and is thus looking at the camera. The shot was taken at the motor show and the camera, a Canon T90, had it`s own dedicated 300TL flash fitted to the hot shoe. The problem with any camera mounted flash is a tendency to deliver harsh and flat lighting. There are now a number of reflectors available to soften light from flash guns, but, in this case, I used a piece of translucent plastic cut from a margarine container and attached to the flash tube with an elastic band. Just a bit cheaper, and it works. Auto exposure still works as long as the diffuser doesn`t obstruct the flash sensing unit. The large area of black background will tend to cause over exposure with some systems.
